Balat 2308 Island Plots 19–20–21 Reconstruction

Survey, restitution and reconstruction projects

Project Summary

Survey, restitution and reconstruction projects for the building group on Balat 2308 island plots 19, 20 and 21 were prepared by Bike Architecture. The work covers the project process including documentation of existing structural remains and reassessment of the building in line with its historical traces.

In the survey phase, the existing state of the structure was documented in detail; standing walls, load-bearing elements, openings and original structural traces were transferred to the drawings. The current physical state of the structure, material decay and structural deficiencies were set out in the survey drawings.

In the restitution studies, assessments regarding the past state of the building were made in line with existing traces and facade proportions; floor levels, facade layout and opening arrangement were reflected in the restitution drawings. Proposals relating to the original mass and facade character of the structure were addressed at this stage.

In the reconstruction projects, architectural drawings for the rebuilding of the structure were prepared. Facade layout, window and door openings, floor alignments and building proportions were defined within the scope of the reconstruction projects. The drawings were developed to be consistent with the building scale and surrounding fabric.

Throughout the project process, structural remains and existing state photographs were evaluated together with the drawings; the survey, restitution and reconstruction phases were addressed as a whole that complement each other. The work was completed as a comprehensive reconstruction project set prepared by Bike Architecture.
