Istanbul-Buyukcekmece Business Center and Residential Design Next to a Historic Structure

Mixed-use – Business center and residential design

Project Summary

Located in Istanbul Buyukcekmece, immediately adjacent to a registered historic building, the Business Center and Residential Project was developed through a holistic design approach that combines contemporary architectural requirements with a conservation-oriented urban context. The main objective is to ensure that the new development establishes its presence in harmony with scale, facade rhythm and mass proportions, without overshadowing the historic environment.

Within the mixed-use scheme, commercial and office units are placed on the lower floors, while residential functions are located on the upper floors. This vertical distribution supports public activity at street level and creates a calmer, more controlled living environment above. To preserve the perception of the historic structure, new building masses are set back and facade continuity and silhouette balance are handled with care.

In facade design, the proportion-void-solid relationship inspired by the historic context is reinterpreted with contemporary materials and detailing. Through window modulation, vertical accents and balcony elements, the building establishes visual continuity with the surrounding street texture while maintaining a modern architectural identity. The color palette and facade components are kept simple and controlled so as not to diminish the prominence of the historic structure.

The Istanbul – Buyukcekmece Business Center and Residential Design is considered a qualified urban architectural project that sets an example for new construction next to historic fabric by balancing conservation, functionality and contemporary living requirements.
