Giresun Martyrs' Memorial and Ceremonial Square

Monument / Public Landscape Design

Project Summary

Giresun Martyrs' Memorial and Ceremonial Square is a monumental space located at the boundary between the city centre’s Yalı neighbourhood and Bulancak/Yalıköy, laid out with a wide ceremonial area and surrounding landscape. The project was designed to create an environment that honours the memory of our martyrs.

The memorial design is distinguished by the Crescent and Star form, expressing Turkey’s national symbol in a spatial and architectural language and creating a ritual focus for ceremonies. The area plan includes public programme elements in harmony with local architecture—a mosque and fountain, walkways, car park and green areas—offering visitors both a place for reflection and opportunities for public use.

In the design, landscape and lighting elements that allow visitors to approach the memorial area with respect are important. Through the landscape layout and night lighting, the space gains a meaningful visual identity both by day and in the evening. The project provides an aesthetic, peaceful and safe environment for ceremonies, commemorations and individual visits.

The project reflects Bike Architecture’s approach to public and monumental architecture and establishes a strong connection with local history and collective memory.
