Project Summary
The restoration project for the Double Mansion and Bath Complex in Tarabya, Sarıyer was prepared by Bike Architecture. The project covers the documentation of the existing state of the historic mansion structures and traditional bath on the Bosphorus shore, the conservation of their architectural integrity, and the design of restoration decisions for their sustainable use.
The double mansion structure reflects the traditional mansion typology formed by two main masses arranged side by side or linked, as one of the distinguished examples of 19th-century residential architecture on the Bosphorus. The bath unit is an integral part of the complex as an auxiliary structure associated with mansion life.
In the survey phase, the masses, facade layouts, floor organisations and roof coverings of the structures were examined on site and existing state drawings were prepared. In the restitution studies, the original architectural character and material data were evaluated; in the restoration projects, intervention decisions for the conservation of the structures were developed with regard to facade integrity and relationship with the surroundings.
The project is a comprehensive restoration work conducted by Bike Architecture for the conservation and perpetuation of Tarabya's cultural heritage.
