Project Summary
Survey, restitution and restoration projects were prepared for the conservation of the qualified enclosure walls within the Yıldız Palace complex. Within the scope of the work, the enclosure walls were addressed in terms of their current state, mass continuity and spatial relationships with the surroundings.
In the survey phase, the current positions, heights, wall masonry system, material character and surface properties of the walls were documented through on-site examinations and measurements; deterioration, vegetation and traces of interventions from different periods were transferred to the drawings. The relationships of the walls with roads, green areas and pedestrian axes were recorded in their current state.
Within the scope of the restitution studies, assessments regarding the possible original state of the enclosure walls were made on the basis of the survey data; restitution proposals were expressed in the drawings in terms of mass continuity, level relationships and architectural integrity. At this stage, only existing traces and identifiable data were taken as the basis.
In the restoration projects, intervention decisions were developed for the conservation of the enclosure walls, ensuring structural continuity and remedying deterioration caused by environmental effects. Proposals relating to wall surfaces, vegetation clearance, material repair and the surrounding layout were set out in sheets and presentation visuals.
The prepared survey, restitution and restoration projects were completed so as to guide the conservation of the Yıldız Palace enclosure walls and future possible implementations.
