Project Summary
Survey, restitution and restoration projects for the retaining walls in the Zeyrek area on Fatih district's Atatürk Boulevard were prepared by Bike Architecture. The work covers documentation of the existing state of stone structures within a linear urban fabric and the design of architectural decisions for their conservation.
In the survey phase, the existing lines, level relationships, openings and surface properties of the retaining walls were examined on site; existing state drawings were produced through measurements and photographs. Arched openings, niches and stone masonry character on the wall surfaces were transferred to the survey drawings.
In the restitution studies, assessments regarding the past state of the retaining walls were made on the basis of existing structural traces and spatial continuity; wall lines, opening arrangements and mass continuity were addressed in the restitution projects. The relationship of the area with the street and surrounding building fabric was evaluated at this stage.
In the restoration projects, architectural interventions for the conservation of the retaining walls were defined; wall surfaces, openings and the surrounding layout were designed in line with restoration decisions. The continuity and legibility of this building group in the public space were addressed with a holistic approach.
The project was created by Bike Architecture as a comprehensive project set covering the survey, restitution and restoration phases prepared for the Zeyrek retaining walls.
